vnc not connecting

I installed (real)vnc and found I was "unable to connect to host: Connection timed out (10060)". Well, it turns out that the Windows Firewall was somehow for some reason blocking the connection. It was easier for me just to disable the firewall on the machine as it is only a workhorse and contains not private data etc... But other than that, you can just click on the exceptions tab and add the vnc port 5900 (at the time of writing this).

[start, control panel, security center / windows firewall, exceptions tab, add port, name=vnc port=5900 (also add another port exception of 5800 if you are doing the view in web page java thing) and leave the tcp protocol selected]

If you seem to be getting no where, just turn off the firewall and test again.

The port numbers are in the vnc options panel BTW.

Oh and another BTW, if you have other installed firewalls, you need to add port allowances for these also.
